These are a couple of the magazine covers that I ended up creating for my magazine, I decided to stick with a simple colour scheme and to keep it minimal rather than clutter the whole page. I'm going to continue experimenting with more magazine covers but for the others I think I'll take a different approach and use colour and different photos.

Masthead Designs

These are a couple of masthead designs that I did. I wanted to go with the 'Less is more' approach to this by keeping the colours simple along with the design itself. I wanted to experiment with the name of the brief so I used 'NVL' standing for 'New Visual Language'. I'm happy with the end designs of my mastheads, I think they're clear and are presented well.

David Carson

David Carson is an American graphic designer and art director. Carson is best known for his creative and stylised magazine designs with the unique style of typography. Carson was the art director for the Ray Gun magazine which he focused heavily on the typography style of work. His style of typography has been described as "Grunge typography". 

What I specifically like about Carson's work is the collage effect that his work seems to have. I tend to like the mix 'n' match style of work which all looks experimental, I especially like the different types of typography that takes up a large amount of the piece of work.

New Visual Language

For the new brief I had to firstly research into Modernism and Post Modernism and at the same time create a range of work that explores the basics of the movements that related to the area of practice of my choice. The work that I create has to be an expression of the movement that I choose to do. In order for me to do that I need to understand the social and political concerns which influence both the movements. 

I need to submit designs for a broad sheet which should be based on my personal and original research from the start of the year, I need to include the edited versions of the following projects:

Earth Artifact
Type transcription 
New Visual Language
